To Resist

We are caught up
in the arbitrary polemics
of push and pull

as if the truth
were a red flag tied to the midpoint of a rope
and whoever pulls it across the line
wins.

Yes, life is a struggle, but the rope
is an imperfect two-dimensional model for our three-
dimensional existence, and four- if you consider time

As the mountain does. It only knows
to stand tall under the weight of snow
and the slow erosion of wind and water,

To resist.
